How to Inject Optimism Into Your Life

How to Inject Optimism Into Your Life

People that see the brighter side of situations tend to have more positive experiences that occur than those that focus on the negative side of situations. Why is that? How do you inject optimism into your life?

Good and Bad Things Happen to All of Us

However, if you only looking for “positives” then you will inadvertently overlook negatives and see more positives! So, your perception of life will be much more optimistic than that of a pessimist – who is only looking for the negatives (and seeing plenty of them)

That doesn’t mean that bad things won’t happen, or that you won’t find yourself in a situation that is less than desirable. It simply means you will have a better experience concerning the negative situations you find yourself in.

Being Optimistic Has Benefits

Studies have shown that optimism is associated with:

  • Greater Achievement
  • Persistence
  • Emotional Health
  • Increased Longevity
  • Less Stress
  • Optimistic people believe that good things are in store for them.
  • Optimistic people believe if a bad thing happens to them, it is not like to happen again (it was just a fluke)
  • Optimistic people see the beautiful sunset when they look out the window – not the spots on the glass
  • Optimistic people believe that good things happen because of them and bad things happen because of something they could not control.
  • Being optimistic is a choice.

Our surroundings (the people we hang out with) affect our ability to be optimistic. Our surroundings can also prevent us from being pessimistic (if we hare hanging around the right people).

How do you inject optimism into your life?

It is paramount that you only hang out with optimistic people (if you want to be an optimist – and who doesn’t). Negative things “roll of the back” of optimists! This enables them to stay positive, which attracts more positive things into their lives.

What can I do about my outlook on things

If you find yourself in the category of a pessimist, there is a solution:

  • Cognitive Restructuring – you can become more optimistic by challenging negative thoughts (asking yourself how likely they are to happen) and replacing them with optimistic thoughts.
  • How to be more optimistic
  • Stay away from pessimists
  • Listen to upbeat music
  • Read inspirational and motivational material (books, quotes, etc.)
  • Don’t be so hard on yourself. If you find yourself being pessimistic, just challenge your thoughts!
  • Rome wasn’t built in a day – becoming an optimistic person (100%) takes time. Be patient and don’t give up on yourself.
  • Read inspirational and motivational material (books, quotes, etc.)
  • Take care of yourself – exercise and eat healthily.
  • Have fun – don’t forget to do stuff that makes you happy.
  • Try to see the good in every situation
  • Use your smile like a shield against negative energy – negative people won’t get near you if you have a smile on your face!
